Since the pandemic started last year, Ilfracombe has become something of a mecca for relocating house hunters who have realised, after many years of commuting on dull motorways or packed trains, that it’s entirely possible to do their job from the comfort of their own home.And, given that their home could be pretty much anywhere in the UK, it’s not hard to see why so many are apparently choosing Ilfracombe. As well as the stunning coastal beauty, fantastic community, great schools, wonderful local businesses, clean air and steady pace of life, it’s also a perfect location to bring up children. OK, I’ll admit this isn’t one of Combebird’s more inspirational images, but it’s the subject here that’s important. With the roadmap out of lockdown now established, April 12 will be a major date in a lot of local businesses calendars. Assuming everything goes to plan, this is the date that non-essential businesses can finally re-open – some for the first time in many, many months. I know I bang on about buying local wherever you can, but it’s never been more important than it is now. Lots of businesses won’t have made it through the pandemic and those that have are likely to be on a knife edge in terms of their survival.
