Your help needed to bag a grant from Tesco

Are you interested in helping us to create a “greener” Ilfracombe?

Can you help us bag a grant of up to £4,000 from Tesco?

If so read on……

With the budget cuts being made by other local authorities, which impact on some of the services and frequency of services being provided, ITC recently recruited a Town Operative to overcome some of the shortfall and to undertake our own grass cutting, pruning and weeding (to name but a few tasks).

This work is being performed very well and the results of all our efforts can be seen here.

One area that hampers this work is the disposal of all this green waste. Just like any resident or local business, we as a Council have to pay to take our green waste to the recycling centre. To minimise this cost we have decided to purchase a chipper/composter. With this we will be able to turn all the weeds that are collected into compost and provide chippings with the tree bark. All of this can then be put back onto the green areas around the town in the most sustainable of ways.

When the opportunity of applying via the Tesco 5p bag grant award scheme came up, we found that we were eligible to apply and the chipper and composter was the ideal focus of our attention. The more funding that we attract will determine how much we can spend on the item and we hope to be able to provide a more extensive range of composting for local community groups in the future.

This is where you can help.

Every time you shop in the Ilfracombe Tesco and receive a token please choose the Ilfracombe Town Council Chipper & Shredder option.

The more tokens that can be contributed after 1 November  via the Tesco store in Ilfracombe – the bigger and better composter we will be able to purchase for the community.

More details of this scheme can be found on the Tesco Bags of Help website whilst administration of the local funding is being managed by the community charity with a green heart, Groundwork, which specialises in transforming communities and the local environment for the better.

Remember by simply donating your token to this cause you will be helping to create a greener Ilfracombe for us all to enjoy.
